Graphic Design Project Draft

Idea and Inspiration:

I decided to create a informative poster in order to inform the viewers about what’s needed when you’re planing to go running. This project idea relates to my topic because people must know what’s essential for running. Things like, shoes and drinking water are the most basic things to know when preparing to run, but people just overlook those tips. There will be times people will forget to hydrate before exercising or not wear proper athletic shoes which may cause harm during the run or in the future.

Design Process:

I was always a fan of cartoon designs to a certain extent, and I felt that illustrations was more visually appealing. At the start, I knew what I wanted to incorporate into the design. I’ve had experience with running in my past and I wanted to include factual information that would help convey my message on my design. The significance of the elements in my design was straightforward. I included, a water bottle, shoes, and people running as a way to show that all you need to run is to be properly hydrated and wear proper attire. The design process was simple and quick, I wanted to have a simple design that was visually appealing. I used colors that popped to attract the viewers eyes, and I had a few text to get the point across.

Technical Detail:

I wanted to make sure the images I collected were free to use, so I won’t have any copyright issues. Bringing the content together wasn’t that difficult because I wanted a simple and straight to the point design. Some tools I used were, the paint bucket, shape, and text tools. Throughout making the design, I haven’t faced any technical difficulties yet.

  1. I really enjoy this deign, and agree the simplicity and cartoon style definitely works. It brings in the viewer in an almost fun way. My only suggestion would be to make it a bit more simplistic, and change the font color to make it pop. My idea would be to remove the shadow of the man, its not needed and looks strange if the laddie doesn’t have one too, either add or take away the shadow. I would also suggest not as much detail on the shoe, if you want simple you must stay consistent throughout the picture. And regarding to the font, it blends with the background to much, it needs to have more contrast, maybe the light blue of the women’s shirt?

  2. I plan to incorporate something else in my design because I feel as if there’s something missing and it’s not complete. I wanted to add another image, but as of right now I can’t think of anything else. For being a draft, it’s straightforward and simple, but portrays the message I’m trying to create clearly. The color and illustrations seems to attract the eyes of the viewers and doesn’t stand out that much. The images maybe resized to be smaller because I want the text to stand out more than the illustrations. I may also consider changing the placement of my text because I felt that placement is key if you want your design to look good. Although I wanted a simple design, it may be too simple which may be the reason why it feels incomplete. For the most part, I incorporated everything I wanted to, but I’m not sure what else I should include. I would appreciate your guys input and advice on how to make my design better.

    • I really like the aesthetic and colors of this piece. Overall it really captures the eye. You say it’s an informative poster, but it is really just boiled down to 3 images with captions. I would elaborate on the benefits on proper attire and hydration. I would also change the text color to gray or something of that sort so it stands out from the background more. If the title is “The Essentials of Running” I would use proper capitalization and I would make it clear that it is the title, make it bold and bigger than the rest of the text. That is all, good job!!!!

  3. I really enjoyed the simplicity and cohesion of all the images. The running characters were good because they created a consistent direction for the design. However I would add a few more images to diversify the poster. On top of that, I would add more color to make it pop more.

    • I forgot the word limit, so I will elaborate on my critique. I understand that you plan to add more to your design, so there isnt much use in talking about that. Besides more color, I would increase the amount of texture in the background. You could possibly have a track or a road with the characters running. I get that it would maybe throw off the posters message, but it could create an interesting and unified creation in the end. Either way, it looks great! Sorry for not commenting enough words on my first post.
